We have now started packing, it is a big job and we are therefore very happy that we have started early. Both of us now have one week left at work, and we have a gang of people coming to help us on the 27th of August to load the boat, the cabins, a lot of second hand windows and other things into the container. Things are therefore going according to plan at the moment, and hopefully this will continue a bit longer.

These pages have now also been moved to their permanent location. We have rented a webhotel for the next 3 years and it is now a matter of trying to find the time to update this diary and other pages on a regular basis. The plan is to do an entry each week to let you all know what we have been able to do. Not sure how quickly we will have internet access on the farm, but there is always the library in the meantime.

In respect of the drawings, etc. there are not major news at the moment, but we are looking at the cost of solar panels vs. grid electricity. The offer we have received so far on solar panel is quite expensive and also relies on having a backup generator running about an hour a day in the winter. With the grid connection we need to check out the accurate distance from the nearest pole to our house, but should it be 650 meters, the cost will be around AUD 17700 for a 3-phase connection. We are checking out some other altenatives to see if we can reduce this cost.

Otherwise we have a very nice neighbour who has said we can connect to his electricity whilst we are building. He has a setup with good long cables that are metered, so we just have to pay for the electricity we are using. This will make life much easier in the beginning, especially in connection with using power tools etc.

Will try to come back with some pictures from the container loading next week - then you can all see what a load we are bringing.
