The roof is up !
Finally, the roof is up. It has taken us a bit of time, first with the lack of materials, and then some bad weather just as we wanted to get going. It was a bit too windy to be dealing with roofing, but finally we had the chance to do the work.
We both worked on the roof on Sunday and Monday, and then Geir managed to finish it off on Tuesday and Wednesday (today) whilst Jodie was at work. There are some small bits before it is all finalised: we still need about 70 cm of gutter, we have to install the down pipes for the rain water, and we have to put in some more screws to ensure that it all sits well in the strong winds that sometimes come through Cremorne, but at least we should now be dry! The insulation might also help keep the cabins warmer now that we are going towards winter (well, we had around 30 degrees on Sunday, so not winter yet, but the evenings are now down to about 10 - 13 degrees).
We have also had a plumber in today and he is also coming tomorrow, so we should hopefully be able to connect the water pump (which has just been purchased) to give us some running water. He is also hopefully fitting the gas hot water unit tomorrow, which means we are really moving towards having an indoor shower in the next few weeks. There is still a bit of work to be done on the bathroom (as can be seen from the picture below): basically we have to fit plasterboard on the walls, build the toilet walls, insulate the ceiling and install plasterboard there as well. Then we have to cut holes in the walls into the "bedroom" and the "kitchen/living room", and we have to install the door to the outside (which is almost completed, after having been built by leftover cabin materials).
So, what does it look like now? Well, here are a couple of pictures. The cabins seem a bit small compared to the roof, but with strawbale walls on the outside, the proportions should be looking better in the future.

And here is a sneek preview of the bathroom as well. People with great observation skills might notice that the ceiling joists (shown in diary entry no. 30) now have been taken away. On advice from our building inspector we changed the designers plan of having a flat ceiling in the bathroom. Due to the design of the cabins, the ceiling turned out to be really, really low (we could walk there, but many could not without minding their heads), so we took down the ceiling joists and are now doing a ceiling with the same shape as the rafters. The doors into the bathroom will still be fairly low, but at least tall people can now also stretch out once inside the bathroom!
