House construction has started !!
Since our last entry we have had some time off - believe it or not ! We took 3 days off in connection with our friend Billy visiting from the UK - the longest break we have had since starting this project - and spent the first day at home, the second day visiting art galleries and some shops in Hobart, and the third day heading of to Richmond to have a lunch there. It was nice to relax a bit, though the weather was not the greatest on the first to days. On the third day we only had a few showers, and the picture below was taken when it was really nice and sunny:

The perceptive people might very well see the fruit tree in the background blossoming, clearly showing that spring is on its way. It hasn't really been a cold winter with most days having around 12-14 degrees and nighttimes being down to about 4 (except for a handful of frost nights in between).
Back to building - we now have started our next big project by starting on the house. Well, having said that, it really started a long time ago, with the plumbing going into the ground and the slab work, but at least now it is getting a bit taller. Geir spent about 3 full days in the container drilling holes at the top of the posts, and this last week started putting them up. Overall we are using 34 steel posts, and together with some of the internal walls, these will hold up the roof of the house. The pictures below shows the slab with the posts (from two different angles).

Yesterday and today we have also started putting up the perimeter beams, but we will post further pictures of this once we have a bit more done.
On Wednesday we got all the wood that we had ordered. The truck was pretty full and the driver estimated that it was about 10.5 tonnes of wood. Good that we are planting lots of trees on the property in order to compensate for the ones we have helped cutting down. (We'll come back with a later diary entry showing you all the trees we have planted, together with the drip irrigation system that we are installing.) As for the wood, you can see that we now have a bit to work with:
