Internal and external stud walls finished

Initially when we thought about the building of the house, we estimated that we would be using about 2 months for getting the wall framing and the roof work done. So far it has been 3 weeks and we now have all the internal and external stud walls completed. On Monday we'll start with some of the ceiling joists and then the rafters that will hold the roof up. Still not sure if our 2 months estimate will hold, but it is looking quite good for the moment and we are happy with the progress.

In order to let you see a bit more what it will look like, we have made up 3 pictures giving a reasonable overview of what the house will look like in the end, well, at least you get to see how the different rooms are located within the house. The pictures were taken from the top of the garage, and then we just used powerpoint to get the lines and the text in the right places:

The dotted lines indicates that this will be open space

We still have some of the perimeter beams to put up, but have found that it is better to now start on the roof from one side of the building, in order to ensure that the last beams are installed at the right height (in order to get the right angle on the roof !!!).

The ceiling above the living area will be raked and have exposed beams, so Jodie has been sanding and oiling them so that they are ready to be installed. There will also be an exposed beam between the living area and the kitchen. These are made out of laminated tas oak and they come out in a very nice colour when using the same oil as we have used on the boat.

Otherwise, life goes on as usual here in Tasmania. We have had a couple of really warm days. Last day of winter turned out to have 19 degrees. We have hardly had any rain in the last few months, which is a bit of a worry for the farmers (and our trees), but good for our building progress. There is talk of another "el ninjo" coming later this year, but we can just hope that it will not happen.
