Ready for colourbond

A couple of weeks now since we gave a little update, but we have been busy building (Geir) and consulting (Jodie) so the webpage has had to wait for a little bit. But lots of new pictures to be added this time around.

We have now completed the structure of the house, that is all the internal walls and the roof. Today we placed the order for the colourbond and hopefully we will get it delivered on Friday. Then we just have to hope for some nice wind free days so that we can get all the sheets up on the roof.

The last bits and pieces of the roofing structure has taken a bit of time. Especially the valley that is formed where the two roofs meet. This was a tricky part, but in the end we think we have managed to get it right. We have also finished all but two of the ceilings inside - the ones over the kitchen and the dining room will be done after the roof is on, as they will be partly supported by the top of the window frame structures that are not yet in place. We still have to put the rest of the noggins in the walls, but that will hopefully be completed by the end of tomorrow.

This is what it looks like at the moment:

North side of the house which eventually will have lots of windows and a pergola at the front as well

The west side of the house. The timer for the internal walls take up most of the middle part. Kitchen and dining room will be on the left side of this picture (north), and one bedroom to the far right (south)

The western part of the house, as seen from the top of the garage.

The middle of this picture shows where the living room and music/movie room will be. The rise in the right of the picture is the roof over the main entrance. The opening at the bottom will be the courtyard between the house and the garage.

Shows the southern wall of the house, with the main entrance at the bottom left hand corner. The area where the scaffolding is will be the laundry and the area inside where the ladders are will be a wide hallway that can also be used as a reading corner.

Roof over the music/movie room (front) and over the entrance and hallway at the back

The clerestory - here seen on the right -  will help bring light to the back of the living room.

Shows the northern part of the roof, with the clerestory. The rafters that are covered with plastic will be exposed inside the clerestory.

Clerestory seen from the east looking west.

The good news is that the engineer came out to see us at the end of last week, and he is happy with the progress so far, i.e. he has approved of the structure to be compliant with the drawings and thus the specifications. So we are very happy that we can then continue with putting on the colourbond roof and then start working on the window and door sub frames, before starting with the baling of the walls.

Should anyone have any more technical questions, then please just send us an email and we will try to response.

And finally, tomorrows weather forecast is a fine day with 25 degrees !
