Roofing virtually completed

If you are ever to build a house in Tasmania we would highly recommend that the roofing is done in another season that spring. Why? Wind !!! We have had some good days and some bad days since our last diary entry, but luckily there have been enough good days to virtually complete the roofing job. As mentioned last time, we had help from our friend Mike to lift the roofing materials up on the ground and Geir had done about 20% of the roofing on a quiet morning. Since then we first had two days of lots of wind, then we had a quiet morning where to two of us managed to finish the roof section over the movie/music room. The we were lucky enough that Mike had another day available, and we managed to finish the big section from the eastern part of the house running west towards the kitchen and dining area. This was the section with the very long sheets - some of which were over 10 meters long - so it was very good to have an extra pair of hands.

The next day was windy, but the following calmed down in the afternoon, so Geir could manage to put up most of the sheets over the kitchen. Then yesterday turned out to be a nice and quiet day, and the two of us managed to put on the rest of the sheets. What is now left are all the flashings and the ridge caps, but weather forecast for tomorrow says "fine", so we can hope that it will be possible to finish the roof off then, or over the next couple of days.

Overall we have had about 4.5 working days. Some time ago we did get a quote on doing to roofing and the company wanted AUD 4400 for the labour part. As such, we have had a reasonably good weekly wage by doing it ourselves.

Some up to date pictures:
