Main house second coat completed

It certainly has been a while since we started doing the second coat rendering on the main house, but then again, we have not been full at it all the time. Considering that we in the mean time also have completed the second coat rendering in the garage, finishing the workshop, building strawbales around the little cabin - with two coats of render, we have actually not done too badly. Overall it took us 11 working days to complete the second coat of the main house. Presumably we will have to use a similar number of days to do the third coat - it seems to take just as long as the second - but the inside walls should be quicker as they are not so tall!!!

The last couple of walls look like this:

As you can see it is still nice and cement coloured grey but this will change once we get onto the third coat. For this wall we will be doing the third coat on top first, then put up the roofing iron above the veranda and the cement sheet lining, before we do the third coat on the rest of the wall. This way we can use our scaffolding to stand on when we do the rendering, rather than sitting on top of the roof and getting render all over the roofing iron!

As for the little cabin we are quite happy now that we have strawbales around the walls. It is definitely much warmer inside and we have now also done most of the painting of the windows on the inside. We have decided to make the cavities white in order to break up the "pine theme" a bit and the result has turned out quite well. We have used on white undercoat, then one white topcoat. It was put on with a brush and then "dabbed" with a plastic bag to create a bit of a pattern, well at least to remove the lines from the paint brush.

Our western window in the living room now looks like this:

So there are not TOO many more things that have to be completed in the little cabin. We still have to do the third coat of render on the outside, some tiling inside, and in our bedroom/office one more coat of paint on the windows. And then we will of course have to build up a proper access to the veranda, not just the pallet we have in place at the moment. We will eventually have a deck on the western side of the living room and also on the northern wall, but this will probably be done when we do all the decking for the rest of the house too. Makes it easier to get all the materials at once rather than separate deliveries.

OK, that is it for this entry, but as can be seen from the index we are making two entries today. The next one is all about our door making that has also been happening since last time.
