Doors, Vacuum cleaner, electricity and some colourbond

Since the last week we have managed to install the main door as well. This is made out of solid timber and is therefore a bit heavier than the other doors, but the installation followed the same principles as with the other doors, except for the fact that there is only one of course. Door locks and handles have all been ordered but they take a couple of weeks to get so they are not yet installed. The main entry door currently looks as follows:

We also wanted to include a picture of the French doors from our bedroom as they are also set in a colourbond wall. As such it looks a bit different from the others which are set in the strawbale walls:

We will install some flashings on the sides of the doors and on top to ensure that water does not come in through the small gaps that are still there.

Having finished the doors as much as we can before getting the windows, doors and locks, we have now started working a bit more inside the house. Before finishing off the strawbale work in the movie/music room we have a bit of electrical work to do and we have also had to install the pipes for the ducted vacuum cleaner system. The actual unit will be installed in the garage and we will have three inlets in the house. We were very close to getting away with just two inlets, but unfortunately we were missing just a couple of meters. Anyway, the following pictures shows the installation of pipes for the vacuum system which is now in place:

Pipe installed from the garage to the main house. This will eventually be hidden inside the roof space of the covered walkway that will be built between the two buildings. It will also contain the main electricity cables.

Pipes in place in the stud wall.

Close up of the actual inlet. The bracket is recessed into the stud and fixed with screws. All the pipes are glued together to prevent leaks. In order to get it all right, we first built the whole system and then later took it apart one part at the time and glued it with PVC glue.

The main pipes then run in the roof space of the house and eventually goes out to the garage.

As can be seen from some of these pictures we have also started stretching the electricity cables inside the house. We are hoping to have this finished in another working day or two and then to start completing the strawbale wall inside the house.

This last week we have also worked more to get the house in a lock up condition and the main task has been the clerestory section of the roof. This has been open for a very long time, but has now been lined with sisolation and colourbond installed. The same was the case above the entrance where one of the side walls had not been.

In order to get the triangles for the sides cut properly we made a mould out of cardboard and used it to mark the colourbond for cutting. This was much easier than trying to get it right some other way.

This is what it looks like at the moment. We will cut two holes in the front section and install windows there. Had hoped to do that today, but forgot to pick up some flashings yesterday which have to be installed below the window, so therefore we will have to wait for some days.

OK, that is it for now - have a nice week everyone.
