Plastering finished and walls mostly painted

Well the good news is that the plastering is finished, well, more or less finished. We still have some 3rd coat sanding to do in the linen cupboard, walk in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom, but sanding the third coat is not such a bad job, especially as it is the end of the whole process.

During the last couple of weeks we have managed to finish the plastering in the eastern part of the house. Basically this covers the entryway, the wide hallway (also called read/play on our plans), bedrooms 2 and 3, the laundry, toilet and the second bathroom. Geir managed to finish sanding the third coat yesterday and today painted all the rooms (except for about 1m2 - ran out of paint) so we are ready for rendering the second coat in the rest of the house.

For the moment the walls have been painted with an undercoat/sealer which is white in colour. Most of the rooms will probably stay white, but we are planning to get some paint samples to see if we want to add some extra colour on the walls. If not, we do have all our nice Afghan carpets that will add a lot of colour to the house, so it might be good to keep the walls in a light colour.

So, here are some pictures of plastered and painted walls in the eastern part of the house:

2nd bedroom, brick wall to be rendered and a wardrobe will be built here eventually - maybe in not that long.

The eastern and northern wall of the 2nd bedroom. The strawbale wall will be rendered over the next 2 or 3 days, so pictures should come next time.

3rd bedroom, northern and eastern walls

3rd bedroom - space for the wardrobe

Hallway - looking into the toilet and the bathroom. In the toilet it is possible to see part of the 1m2 that we haven't painted so far - need to get another couple of tins of paint to finish the job.

Big Hallway (ready/play) - standing on the eastern side, looking west.

Hallway - looking into the laundry.

Bathroom - where the bathtub will eventually be

And finally the entry way. There will be a bit wardrobe here, covering most of the strawbale wall and the wall covered with plaster board. Under the window we will have a seat, probably built so that it also gives a bit of storage space.

Since last we also finished the rendering of the music/movie room and the brick wall in the living area, but we don't have any pictures yet. Sorry about that, but it will come next time. Might actually do a little movie for next time, when hopefully all the walls are covered with a second coat of render.

So what is next? Well, after finishing the 2nd coat of render in the eastern part of the house, we will finish the sanding and painting in the western part of the house. After that we will start fitting out some of the rooms and first on the list will be the linen cupboard, pantry, walk in wardrobe, then the two wardrobes in the bedrooms.

We will also start building the kitchen. We have decided to build this ourselves, using plywood to build the frame and buying drawer mechanisms from Blum ( www.blum.com.au ). The bench top will polished concrete - at least that is the plan for the moment. Have to find out how much it will cost us. We are also thinking hard about the range hood at the moment. The problem is that our cooker is 1200mm wide and it is hard to get range hoods at that size - well, you can get them, but they cost a lot. So we are looking at alternatives, either buy having one made (in commercial style - i.e. similar to what they would have in restaurants, etc.) or making it ourselves. So far we have started getting prices on the various components, but still have a bit to go before we make a final decision. Should we make it ourselves we will post a later diary entry with all the details.

Otherwise we have also done some gardening since last time, pulling out lots of weeds and also organising our vegetable garden a bit better - we have moved and filled up some more of our raised garden beds (made out of old water tanks). We have also purchased some blue berries, grapes and blackberries (various types) that probably will be planted this weekend.

OK, that will be it for now. Have a nice week or two!

Cheers
