Rendering inside and building walk-in-wardrobe and linen cupboard
Yet again, sorry about the delay in updates. Too much work too do and not really feeling like sitting in front of the computer at night time. But at least here's another one.
Just discovered that since the last update we have finished all the second coat rendering inside. Unfortunately we have not taken any photos of it so far. Believe we talked about making another little inside the house movie for this update, but that has not happened, so hopefully next time. In the mean time we can let you know that we have now finished 2 rooms (except for the floor). They are the linen cupboard and the walk in wardrobe. Well, the latter is still missing 5 drawers, but we should be getting the mechanisms for them next week and they will then be constructed pretty quickly.
The linen cupboard is basically a small triangular room, with the longest walls being around 230cm wide. We basically decided to go with a very simple shelf system, buying the metal runners and brackets from Bunnings. The shelves are made out of melamine - not a perfect product but very easy to keep clean and all finished, thus making the building job easier.

This pictures shows a close up of the metal runners on the wall, the bracket and the finished melamine shelves. In terms of making the shelves we bought the materials from a local hardware store and cut them to size ourselves. It was not possible to get ready made shelves to fit our room, so just much easier to buy lengths of 3.6m and cut it ourselves.

Another picture of the finished result - 6 shelves, each about 3.5m long so that should give us plenty of space to store our towels, bedding, etc.
The next room we started on was then the walk in wardrobe. For this room we remembered to take pictures during the construction process, so hear we go:

Timber on the floor to lift the bottom shelf up to around 100mm above ground level. The timber we used is EcoAsh, which is a plantation grown hardwood. It comes out really nicely when it is oiled/varnished. We used the same material for making all the doors.

Bottom shelf is put in place. We actually made all the parts first and semi assembled them to ensure that it would all fit together. This was done one shelf at the time, and using the previous shelf as a template for the next one.

More bottom shelves put in place.
And finally on the last side of the room.

We predrilled holes in all the shelves before starting the assembly. Wooden dowels were then used to keep it all in the right places and wood glue to hold it together.

A few shelves now assembled together

This small section was not the easiest due to the various angles, but we managed in the end to fit it all together.

All getting together. The rubber hammer came in very useful to knock the different parts together.

Next section completed. The box in the left hand bottom corner will be used to install 5 drawers. We will use plywood for the fronts for these - will make good practice before we start making the kitchen fronts.

Getting to the end of the assembly here. The wooden structures holds up the top shelf that runs right around the room. They will also be used for coat hangers in two levels, one that runs the full length of the wall, and another that runs from the wall on the left hand side to the second wooden "pole". This way we get plenty of space to hang up cloths and a section also for longer coats/dresses.
Finally for this entry, here is a small video of the final walk in wardrobe and linen cupboard:
